Finished Shooting Script

Here is the finished shooting script we will be using:
Shooting Script:
Locations for Shooting:
Wolverhampton Bus Station
West Park
Wolverhampton city centre
Approximate Filming Time (To use camera and shoot footage) 1-2 weeks
Our first location for shooting location would be the bus station to set up for the scene where the boy and girl meet up, and the whole situation that arises from the text message that appears on screen and her leaving him in the bus station alone whilst he sheds one tear.
So the order of how shooting will be done is as follows:
1.)    The area where the two meet will have 2 seats the camera will be placed in 4 different spots around the area to shoot the scene from different shots.
Mid-long shot
Over the Shoulder shot
Close Up shot
Mid-shot
(This allows us to pick the best footage to show them meeting up)
Approximate time within the film for this part is 10-15 seconds dependent on walking speed of actors as well as if transitions are used to transfer to the next shot
After which we will take a short 2-5 minute break to allow actors to readjust clothing make-up or to drink and eat. (After which the footage will be review and re-shots taken if needed)

2.)    Next we will focus on getting the phone and the female actor into position so it gives and authentic feel for the film, this will be done from 3 different shots
Over the shoulder
Close Up shot
Mid-shot
After which the camera will be moved to do a close up shot of the phone
(After which the footage will be review and re-shots taken if needed)
Approximate time for this to occur will be 15-20 seconds with the use of transitions and shifting towards the phone

3.)    Now we will be focusing on getting the right amount of emotion in the scene where the girl is angry with the guy for have texts from another girl on his phone

(The shots used will be:

A mid-long shot taken from 2 different angles and will follow the 180 degree rule unless the shot looks better from another point of view.

Close ups will also be required to get the emotion
(We might have to employ Stanislavski’s emotional memory technique to get the desired emotion.)

The phone will also be waved about in the hand of the girl to show here anger so the shots will be used to emphasise this.

This whole part should take 20-30 seconds of the music video

4.)    After this we need to shoot the girl leaving and this will be done by tracking the subject with the camera as well as getting shots of the boy looking downtrodden and upset(possibly crying) as he sees the girl walk away.

Shots required:

Long shot from the prospective of the boy and from the front of the girl to show she’s leaving him behind

As well as close-ups

Mid shots

This whole part should take 20-30 seconds of the music video

After this we will take a 15-30 minute break (or to travel within this time as well as get breakfast and drinks if people haven’t eaten in the aforementioned break) and head to west park to conclude or filming within the bus station and possibly the surrounding areas.

(The boy and girl will begin by doing all of the stuff that has been designated in the flashback scenes)
(So the dance scene on the bandstand if it isn’t in use)
If it is then a dance by the lake/pond
The couple also walking through the park and them also looking longingly into each other’s eyes
Girls mum texts here to tell her to come home because she needs her.
As well as the scene where he fades in from the flashback with his gift in hand, all of these shots have to be done first before we get him texting the girl to tell her to meet him in the park.
She and the boy will embrace and he will then present her with his gift (the contents of which will be left for the audience to imagine after which she’ll laugh/cackle at him throwing the gift box on the floor and walking away leaving the boy alone to shed 1 tear.

And this is how the shooting will be done:

1.)    The first scene shot will be the boy entering the park for a part of the music video later on.

This will take a mere 5 seconds

2.)    Because it makes more sense to get that out the way seeing as entering the park is something we will do possibly once

(This will have shots taken from 3 different positions to give us a good range of footage to edit.
Using
Mid-long shot
Mid shot
And a long shot

This should take 10 seconds of the music video

3.)    Secondly the footage of them walking hand in hand down the paths of the park and that being shot from in front of and behind them at the distance of about 2 meters, so this equates to a mid-long to mid-shot we also need to show some form of dialogue which will be muted out for the video, but gives a range of emotion that the actors can play on.

This should take 10 seconds of the music video

After this we will take a 5 minute break (for toilet uses and food and drink breaks but I figure it will just be to drink at this point) which will allow us to get the bandstand area ready for our next scene.

4.)    The girl and boy will need to do some form of waltz or cha-cha on the bandstand and they will need to dance whilst the camera spins around them to allow for the full range of movement to be captured and this leads to a slight zoom in from the mid-long shot to the point it zooms into the boy’s face and then the camera would transition to him coming out of dance on his own as he exits the flash back scene and the camera zooms out to show this.

This should take 15-20 seconds of the music video

5.)    The girl is somewhere else in the park and receives the text to go and meet the boy which is where the part where they stare longingly into each other’s eyes which then zooms in and out again to signify loneliness however whereas the boy found some optimism in the flashbacks, she finds none and continues on her way.

This should take 15 seconds of the music video

6.)    They then meet up at the black hut area at the park and embrace each other showing him smiling but her looking annoyed or sad.

This should take 5-10 seconds of the music video

7.)    Which then proceeds with them breaking apart and him giving her the gift box and this will have 3 different angles

Long Two-Shot
Mid-Long Two-Shot
Mid-Two-Shot
This should take 10-15 seconds of the music video

8.)    She needs to look inside the box and then laugh and walk away and throwing the box at him or dropping it on the floor and then she this can be done from about 5 different angles

Long Two-Shot
Mid-Long Two-Shot
Mid-Two-Shot
long shot
close-ups

This should take 15-20 seconds of the music video

And we will have 2 over the shoulder shots as well as a long shot, a mid-long shot and a mid-shot with the use of a 2-shot to portray them, and after this filming will be finished, some bits will have to be redone but this is highly unlikely as we will be taking quite a few takes to use for editing.

Approx. time for shooting should be 3-4 hours if we get everything right first time, and the following shooting day can be used if we need to re do something.

And this sums up or plan for shooting.

Finishing up the loose ends before filming

In the last few weeks we have been creating the storyboards and shooting script for our music video, the reason it has taken so long to finish is down to debating timing for the parts of the video and also illness, as I've been ill so work did slow down for a time, however thanks to the miracle that is the Internet i was able to send the documents to Liam to look over and debate with me whilst i was in bed at home resting.

all in all the finished music video product should last 4 minutes 30 seconds with 4 minutes and 6 seconds of music and the rest of the time will either be dialogue or quotes on a black background.

the shooting script took a few days to finish whilst me and Liam planned the order of filming, i took the plans for the shooting script home and typed them up at home into a finished shooting script which i then showed Liam and he agreed with the finished product and now we can look at getting a camera booked out and alert our cast to a possible filming date

Great news on the development of our idea

Ok this post is just to show everyone the document we sent out a while back talking about our music video and what we might do within it.

As you can see below we marked out what we wanted to do and then we listed it on a document and got some feedback:

Video idea by Liam homer and Brocken rose
Below is a list of all the events that happen in our video, and we would like feedback from you, so if you wouldn't mind just giving us your thoughts on the plan so far, thank you very much.

Boy and girl in house/shop/pub/other location

Flirty text/phone call from another girl

Girl reads text/gets on the phone and has a go at the boy

Girl slaps boy in face

Girl storms out of house/shop/pub/room/mode of transport

Boy looks confused

Girl tries to stubbornly bottle her emotions inside her

Girl about to breakdown

Girl takes tissue out of pocket and wipes her eyes

Girl walks to the Park/retail Park or other location and sits on bench

Girl has flashback of happy memories with boy and the same happens to boy but he remember the good times with the girl

Boy outside pub or other location with phone

Boy texts/calls girl asking where she is

Boy then heads to a store and walks out with a wrapped box or he has it in some location near to him

Boy walks to the girl’s location with a gift

Boy spots girl

Boy sits next to or awkwardly stands by the girl with the gift and gives it to her

Girl opens gift

Girl laughs/smiles

Boy and girl kiss/hug/laugh together

Boy and girl walk off holding hands into the sunset, or just walk off

Please comment on the back of the page

After this we got some really good feedback, some of the comments given to us were immensely helpful, one comment said that the ending was too cliche and that whilst the happy ending was good, it could do with a shock twist or something, so me and liam took that to heart and said the ending should have a mild alteration, but then said how about if instead of them getting back together she laughs and then walks off and he should collapse down or sit down looking down-trodden and then someone puts their hand on his shoulder, which could be anyone(as we would like to leave it up to the audience to think whose hand it could be, however only me and liam know whose hand it is)

Sorry,about the lack of posts

Ladies and gentlemen, i do apologise for a lack posts recently, we've had a few weeks of learning some really interesting techniques we can apply to media, and as well as that a lot of work has been paper based for planning purposes, of course this isn't an excuse it's just to explain why there hasn't been regular postings of course content.

Of course now that we have cleared a ton of paperwork i can once again return to regular posting
thanks lot of reading and as an apology here is a song to

1st Meeting Plan

Because our team finds itself still lacking anything other than worded research and posts we felt it was time to record at least one of our discussions, because while we have discussed what we plan to do we haven't really sat down and planned massively, i feel this meeting will help us accomplish that, so here is the list of things well will be visiting:

A Background/Detailed Analysis of the song which will also include a small portion of research on the artist.

How we have interpreted the song

What ideas we can take from the song and apply to our music video or what direction we might take in terms of research for planning our video thoroughly

The Positives and Negatives of "all for love" and how it might have done had the song received mainstream attention instead of being a niche product

And finally a brief talk about what we know about Soul and R&B.

all in all this discussion plan is simple and easy to follow, and this will make recording it very easy.

Talking About Soul(1)

Soul music had humble origins, in the black communities of the united states of America, at the time gospel music and rhythm and blues were the main singing tool of the black community who were proud of their culture, as the music developed it eventually became representative of the whole popular music of black people at the time, and so people produced this soul music and it became a staple of American culture and even more so the Motown records label, which originally produced pop music but because of the large number of artists who were signing with Motown they had a large percentage of artists who performed soul records and famous examples of people who are consider soul artists are:

Marvin Gaye
Stevie Wonder
The Superemes
The Jackson Five

As you can see there are a number of well known artists, and often their work is referred to as classic and imaginative, but the genre of soul only lasted until the late 1990's when the music industry decided that Hip-Hop is what appealed most to the younger listens of today as the industry decided children and teenagers often wanted the most trendy and cool music and would bug their parents to purchase it.

So this was a small part of the larger area known as the genre of soul.

Smokey Robinson said of Motown's cultural impact:
Into the '60s, I was still not of a frame of mind that we were not only making music, we were making history. But I did recognize the impact because acts were going all over the world at that time. I recognized the bridges that we crossed, the racial problems and the barriers that we broke down with music. I recognized that because I lived it. I would come to the South in the early days of Motown and the audiences would be segregated. Then they started to get the Motown music and we would go back and the audiences were integrated and the kids were dancing together and holding hands.

Email to warner brothers for permission to use our selected track

Dear Warner music group,

as the topic of the email suggests i would like to ask for permission to use a specific soundtrack for a A level media studies project, the project is the creation of a music video, however the examinations board who regulates the course has a strict line when it comes to using copyright music.

They ask that we get permission from the associated label to use the track we select before we do any work, so in keeping with this i,Brocken Rose would like to ask for your permission to use the track:All For Love By Seal(Commitment 2010) in my music video.

Thank you very much for reading this question and thank you for any return messages i may receive as part of this question and once again thank you

Song Choice Selected

After much deliberation and choosing, Our Hopeful selection is Seal-All For Love,Which honestly surprises me, because originally i put it on the list of selection as a filler song to fill out my end of the list, however after going through the process of picking a song it ended up being one of the quite high-up tracks, after that it faced compitietion from Sister act,Bodies and Englishman in new york, and then we decided to look at each of the factors we liked about the song, we found i'm fabulous baby was unsuitable because of certain elements in the lyrics and the amount of stage work that would be involved, next we got rid of english man in new york because of it's recent popularity being featured in an episode of doctor who, so that left us with bodies and all for love, we then decided on some crieta for which song we should pick and the crietea was:

Does The Song Have A Music Video

Can The Video Be Produced At Low Or No Cost

Does The Video have thousands of views or millions

And

Does The Music Sound Good Enough to listen to for repeated amounts of time without becoming annoying.

World So Confused lyrics(and Info)

Working all night
Working all day
on creating this rap
to pave my way

And all i can feel
and all i can see
are the hopes of the millions swelling in me

so i hope our time slows down
so we can live on this dream that i finally found
and eventually we can all enjoy life and
survive in a world devoid of all strife

Theres a new world out there somewhere
where there is no war and people don't become fools
remembering how life used to be
before anger and injustice
ruled our tvs

every bit of news these days
seems to be about the people
who have to pay and they ruin their day
be it with money or with their life
and just because our would is in strife

And all i can feel
and all i can see
are the hopes of the millions swelling in me

so i hope our time slows down
so we can live on this dream that i finally found
and eventually we can all enjoy life and
survive in a world devoid of all strife

So finally the world slows down
and people's anger has finally been drowned
and people now live with no misery
and humankind can finally create history

And all i can feel
and all i can see
are the hopes humankinds true history
so maybe tomorrow this can all be and i won't shy away from the mystery
so i can live on this planet where i had my birth
a little blue gem we call planet earth

Looking at our choices part 1

After looking at our 4 songs in a little more detail me and liam decided that fabulous baby doesn't suit the idea of the music video that we would like to create, in terms of copyright in case we cannot get permission to se the song we pick i have produced some lyrics for a song and i can add a tune and sing it myself, i entitled the song "World So Confused", at this moment in time i don't feel the need to explain it within this post but possibly later on in the blog i will end up posting the lyrics as well as the inspiration behind them as well, of course the song is intended to be an absolute last resort should all else fail

Creating a new possiblity part 1

Well on Monday the entire A2 media group was brief on the work order for the next couple of months, and with that miss.lynch asked the entire group to explain their ideas, after this we came across some confusion, as i was under the impression i was working on my own, but apparently Liam thought he was working with me, so i decided to accept his assistance with the A2 music video, due to some previous planning ideas i was a bit worried about how working with Liam would work so i decided that we should look at a song with both of us using a voting system to decide our song choice, after that we would look at the genre behind that song and look at the music videos of that genre and from there and start to construct some ideas for the video, luckily since i and Liam live quite near each other it makes filming easy if we have to film locally, also we decided to set some rules for the group:

1.)all blogs must be updated at least once a week and all ideas must be put onto the blog
2.) any ideas that are used must be agreed on by both members of the group
and 3.) Try to get work done to a high standard whilst working with deadlines

after this we decided to figure out what song we should use, here i have a list of proposed songs that I'd like to use, of course the final song we pick needs to have permission to use it from the record label who owns the song

apart from that everything seems to be going well

my List

Jamiroquai-King For A Day
Elton John-Rocketman
Seal-Fly like an eagle
Brocken Rose-World So Confused
Seal- all for love
WWE-Zack Ryder Radio(Unused Version)
Living Colour-Cult Of Personality
Rick Astley-Never gonna give you up
Gnarls Barkley-Crazy
Cee-lo-Green-It's Ok
Coldplay-Paradise
Wicked-Defying Gravity
Andy Abraham-Even If(eurovision 2008)

Summer of Ideas

Well it's been around 6 weeks since i lasted posted anything even close to research on my blog, this is because I've been on the long summer break, and this Thursday i go back to work for my last year of high school education, so that made me think about the song or idea i wanted to use for my music video, in terms of a theme for my music video, i wanted something that was nostalgic and something that makes people think back to a point in time during their lives, so that made me think about the genre of music i wanted to use for the video, so i thought that if i wanted to make it relate to theme of nostalgia that i wanted my music video to have then i should look at artists from the 1980's/1990's and look at both their videos and how their music was constructed and played and then decide whether i will make my own song or get a local groups permission to use their music, in terms of genres of music that happened to be popular in the 80/90's pop and rock had a massive amount of influence, so possible artists to look at will include

Seal
Jamiroquai
Westlife
Take That
Blur
Oasis
Manic Street preachers

These few selections are an excellent base for looking at a very interesting genre sets, even though the first 4 are pop the type of sound  that each artist/s created was individual to that artist/s.

Over the summer the London 2012 Olympics happened, that might be something to look at in terms of how the UK has changed since the last time we hosted the Olympics.

even though the idea i have is going for a nostalgic older feel, it can tie into the future and what people might and could do.

Goodwin & Vernallis Overall Theory

Goodwin
Andrew Goodwin has identified a number of key features in music videos. They are:

- A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.
- A relationship between the music and the visuals, with the visuals illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the music.
- Genre-related style and iconography present.
- Multiple close-ups of the main artist or vocalist.
- Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females.
- Intertextual references to other media texts may be present.

He says that music videos are often constructed by the link between the visuals and the song plus the artist. Relationships are built between these in the video, and the close-ups of the artists gives them the representation and publicity they require. Voyeurism is used to increase the video’s attractiveness, particularly to males, whilst intertextuality is often employed in humorous videos.

Many of these features are present in all music videos, depending on the genre of the song and the aim of the record company/artist.

More research for music videos

My next video is Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai(Group)

This is often regarded as being one of the best music videos of all time, the music comes under the acid jazz genre, the director of the video, Johnathan glazer is often asked how he managed to make the floor move during the video, actually nothing moves except for the walls as the entire studio is just a grey floor with some fake walls and this can be seen in some shots as they do wobble, the most prevalently example is during the tunnel scene where the tunnel wobbles as the rest of Jamiroquai exit the tunnel whilst Jay Kay moves around in the tunnel.

This video does use some camera tricks and if i was to do a really wacky music video i might use the idea whilst me or a extra actor moves around.

More research for music videos

This song is Going On by the group Gnarls Barkley(which consists of singers Cee lo green and danger mouse)the song is from the hip-hop genre and features a convincing blend between all out wild dancing and synchronised pieces of dancing art the film itself was filmed in Jamaica using local stars.

i personally like the idea of having synchronised dancers in my video, however seeing as I'm working on my own i might have to ask extras to appear.

Researching music for ideas for music video

The video I'm looking at today is Feel Good inc by Gorillaz
it's in the rock genre, even though it could be classed as trip rock, most Gorillaz videos are animated which is rather unusual even by today's standards, the whole animation idea ended up creating a universe/world on the official Gorillaz website which includes a range of music videos and animated shorts.
Even though it's unlikely, i might try including some form of animation or artistic influence with my video

Music and genre's to consider for my work

My next song is Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley, the genre for this song is actually Dance-Pop, this genre doesn't exist in in the 2000 era as Pop and R&B and alternate rock and dubstep have had a much larger cultural impact in terms of song use, however this song is popular because of it's use as a modern internet prank, however besides this it was a massive hit when it was released back in 1987, the use of background actors and dancers does appeal to me quite a bit, and so i might employ use of background actors and dancers in my music video

Pitching a video idea for a preselected music choice

For my latest task i was asked to create a pitch for a music video,

The music i was given was this:

It's black hole sun by Soundgarden

I wasn't shown the music video before hand and pretty much had to guess what i would imagine it being like, my own idea of it was that the song would open with a really generic looking rockband with minimal talent appear on a stage, starting to play music but a huge thunderstorm hits the stage and everything comes to life and this soon brings the statues at the sides of the stage to life and as they pick up giant instruments and begin playing them.

The crowd below the stage are soon swaying in time to the music and at the end of the song after a few minutes of electrifying music, the crowd and everything else disappears except for the band who finish the song in a deserted field.

Writing up about gotye and lady gaga's music videos and doing some comparisons

Well last week, as this is when i officially started writing about it, i viewed 2 videos and decided to compare the music, so after watching the lady gaga video i decided that lady gaga is continuing to create her own unique style of music and this shows in her videos as the whole concept is constantly changing so lighting is changing whilst all of the background also changes, this might be to represent the different states of romance or of someone's mind.

The camera angles are always different and the camera does move around the set and doesn't stay static unlike the gotye video where the camera sits pretty much in the same spot for the whole video, however lady gaga's video is a very over the top affair and doesn't have the simplistic beauty of the gotye video

The gotye video is very simple, a half-naked guy starts to sing and as he does the walls begin to get painted in triangles and so does he and the a half-naked lady also emerges and they sing together until
she leaves.

Now this video doesn't have a mass of expensive sets or back-up dancer it's just a simple down to earth videos also the use of in-video art really brings it alive and makes it a wonderful video to watch

More music for research purposes and genre's

My next song is Cult Of Personality by Living Colour, now this song was released in 1988 which isn't very long ago however Living Colour are only well known in America as they never really expanded themselves out towards the rest of the world, however this song has seen a sudden trend in popularity due to WWE Superstar Cm Punk using it as his entrance music, the song is in the Funk-metal/Heavy-metal genre, me personally i get more of a rock vibe of this music but i can see where elements of  heavy metal come into play, the video depicts famous political and religious figures as well as mentioning them ,which might give this song a political context, however i do like the idea of using world leaders in my video and i will consider using it

Additional music and genres to explore

This song is hey ya by outkast, it was released in 2004 and is part of the alternate hip-hop and funk genre's however i'll stick to hip-hop form this video because it does have more of a ahip-hop vibe to it where it's one of those songs people would dance to in large groups.

The video itself is fairly intresting, i might steal the stage like set for my video when i begin to draft ideas

Ideas for music videos and genres

My next video is the song Brand New Day by Sting, now lot's of people my age might have heard of sting but won't really know who he is or what kind of music he plays, no i felt that this pop-rock video gave off vibes of religious ideas like the man standing on the hill who could be perceived as Jesus or a messiah, which i found interesting, now i grew up with my dad listening to sting so i do recognise when his work when it's played through any medium of technology, now the idea of a music video like this is to take a popular song from a popular artist from around our time 1990's and use that to increase the amount of people who might watch the video.

Music i might consider using for my project as well as examples of genre's 3

Now this music video is from the pop genre back all the way from 1983, so this song is 11 years older than myself, however it does have a classical feel to it and i thought that does give it a good reason for being choosen to be a piece of music i could consider doing or at least look at it to take ideas for my project.

Music i might consider using for my project as well as examples of genre's 2

Well my second song is Airplanes by B.O.B and Paramore's Hayley Williams, now this song is listed as being under alternative hip-hop, now me personally i actually agree with this genre choice, because it's a little bit more meaningful than the ready made pop songs we get nowadays, anyway this video seems quite interesting and it does make me think about how i might produce my video.

Music i might consider using for my project as well as examples of genre's

Here is the first video of this research series,it's a take by the artist seal on the classic soul song, a change is gonna come, the song was released way back in 1964 by Sam Cooke but seal did a take on it for his 2008 album soul, where he covered a range of classical soul  music and the sequel to that soul 2

This music is a good example of soul based music

Beginning My Research

Just like last year, i can't go into just making this video, i have to take time and plan it from the smallest detail, for example i have to pick a genre of music to use or a particular song, next i need to plan how my video will relate to my music and third i need to decide filming locations for my video, however the three things i just listed are the main things i need to sort for this video, i haven't even mentioned the smaller things which effectively add up to making a very good video.

The project begins in September with me picking/working with a partner/partners or by myself after i decide that or am forced to join a group then i follow this list of directions to produce the music video

Firstly i need to select music(this will most likely be done for September, however i feel like i might lean towards a Soul, R&B or Pop video)
next i then need to look at music videos of those particular genres and look for outlying characteristics of each video and list them down.

Then i would look at storyboarding my ideas of how i would go around working on my project and what it could look like

After that i will need to write to the artist whose music i select and ask for permission to use their music in my video(there's no point producing a video if i don't have the music)

Then when i get permission to use the music, i can begin scouting or looking at locations where i would like to consider shooting.

Then i would look at how i could advertise my music video through use of mediums like radio/magazines/Internet/facebook and then produce at least 2 forms of advertisement

After this i can start filming the video in my locations and put together a few promo videos to help with my advertising.

After this i would finish filming, edit the video together and release it(and submit it to the exam board)

This process will take me up to at least next may without including all of the exam based revision as well as trips which will fill the rest of the year up.

In my next few post i will be showing some of music videos of the genre's i might pick and then some songs that i'm considering using for the project because i like them.
